Will turning the "gain" up affect anything?
I recently got another subwoofer for my car because my previous one messed up. I asked the installers to tune my amplifier properly because I think the previous installers tuned it incorrectly. After riding around a bit, I noticed it didn't have as much "bump" to it as before. I also noticed they didn't tune it to the proper Hz (they had it at 80 when it needs to be at 50). When I was looking at it I noticed if I turned the gain up a bit it was a much deeper thud than before, but I'm not sure if could potentially damage the sub in the long run. Will turning the gain up on my amplifier hurt my sub in the long run?
I've got a 10" JL Audio W3v3 4-Ohm powered by a 325.5 Watt RockfordFosgate amplifier in the trunk of an '01 Honda Accord Coupe.
You should have no worries. If that amp puts out 325.5 watts rms to the sub then the sub should be able to take all of the power that the amp can put out plus some. I looked the sub up and i'm pretty sure it can handle up to 500 watts rms.
