Subwoofer Enclosure Vented or Sealed?
I have two JlL W3s in a sealed enclosure my amp is a Memphis Pr.16 something like that its 1000 watts at 1ohm so im pushing the hell out of em. i want it to sound louder should i make a vent and if so how can i do that i hav no expeirence can som1 giv me advice or somethin.
In general, sealed sounds better, ported sounds louder. So if you are really wanting an SPL boost a ported enclosure would be good. Realize a couple of things though: you're gonna need to start from scratch with the enclosure. You can't simply cut a hole in your sealed enclosure...a ported enclosure needs to be of a particular airspace and the port needs to be of a particluar diamater and length. So if you want a ported enclosure AND you want it to sound good you will either need to build it yourself or have one custom built based on the specs of those subs. Also, ported enclosures are much larger...for 2 12's (I'm assuming they're 12's) you'd be looking at an enclosure around 4cf (likely about twice as big as your current enclosure).
