Quad Lock - Custom Subwoofer Enclosure Construction
Sometimes the details in constructing a high quality Super Enclosure can go unnoticed so take the next 60 seconds to educate yourself on one of the most important components of your car stereo system.
If you have had any experience constructing an enclosure for a sub bass application you know the most vulnerable areas are the joints. If done improperly, the joint can create unwanted sounds and air leaks. And it is these air leaks that lead to blown woofers.
That is why OBCON would like to introduce you to our Quad Lock Joint Re-inforcement manufacturing process. This process steps up OBCON to the "Super Enclosure" status.
Let's talk a moment about how the Quad Lock joints are done. First, at OBCON a fully automated computerized saw cuts each piece with precision detail. From there a separate computerized router cuts 5mm grooves into the top and bottom pieces. The grooves give added bracing on top and bottom eliminating any movement high levels of vibration induce. This is step one in our Quad Lock phase of construction.
From there it is off to assemble the cut pieces. It is during the assembly process we use one of the most powerful wood glues on the market. When this glue dries the integrity of the joint is so strong you could run over this box with a truck and the joint will be the last to give way. That's strong!!
It is from there we staple each edge. But don't be fooled the staples are just there to give the glue time to dry.
Step 4 in the Quad Lock process is the application of caulk to every interior edge. It is important to mention here that our glue and caulk are two separate materials and are applied at two separate stages. However, similar looking boxes out in the market use a combination of glue and caulk to save money and time but this mixture weakens the adhesion of the glue and hardens the flexibility of the caulk both of which are very important properties when building solid lasting joints.
