Are Subwoofers for cars universal?
Can you put any subwoofer in any car with any amp? If it matters, i have a 06 Mitsubishi eclipse GT. Any help?
And what do the RMS, Peak, and watts and stuff mean? I dont know anything about speakers but i want hard hitting subs for my car for cheap.
peak is a number that should be ignored ( they use this number to lure in suckers) the back of the box will tell what it will really run, read the fine print. and look for RMS
RMS is the number that speaker or amp will really put out, (this is the number u need to look at when buying speakers and amps)
to match ur amps to ur subs to needs to learn about ohms. the lower the ohms the more power ur subs will see. the higher the ohms less power
example:
most amps r 2 ohm stable, ( means they can go as low as 2 ohms safely). so say ur amp is 1000 true watts at 2 ohms, ( means it will put out 1000watts at 2 ohms) at 4 ohms the amp can only put 600watts. (higher ohms less power)
u try to match the ohms of ur subs to ur amp to give u the best possible power supply ( matching close as u can to the watts of ur speaker or sub)
so if u hooked a 4 ohm sub to a 1000watt amp which is stable at 2 ohms, ur sub will only see maybe see 600 watts of the 1000 watts the amp could put out.
it get alot more confusing for someone new at this, but try to learn about ohms and subs an when u add more than one sub how the ohms change, if u learn ur ohms it's easy to pick the best amp or subs to match up
